The problem is, as i said before, the exterior (in this country) says very little about the people living inside.
taking photos in this sense to supposedly show ghetto/slum/squatting quarters might be misleading.
let me give you an example:
this is a house for rent on the east side of Oslo, in an area called Grorud - where "primarily" Muslims live. This probably the closest you'd come to a so-called 'ghetto' - since the Muslim population is close to 50% and Norwegians are moving out.
And this is a house on the west side of the city - Bærum , where mostly high-income highly educated Norwegians make their home.
the difference of course comes in the rental price.
The Grorud house is 84 sqm for 11,500 NOK appr. 2040 USD or 1275 GBP per month.
The one at Snarøya is 65 sqm for 12,500 NOK
But for someone who's not from Oslo or worse yet, not norwegian, can you tell the difference by simply looking at the houses?
The class differentiation in Norway is more subtle. It has more to do with the interior of your house, what kind of cars you drive, if you have a hytta (i.e. a cabin) in which area, what you do in your spare time, and what you put on your dinner table, amongst other things. It would be VERY interesting to document the differences in these aspects and really show what they mean. But going to supposedly where the poor people live and simply click-click wont do the job. |
