Her early career included accident and emergency nursing for more than 10 years in the Glasgow area and in the Middle East, in Saudia Arabia and Oman. Later, she sought senior nursing posts and then management positions, going up through the management ranks, taking on her first chief executive role in 2002 at an acute hospital in Kingston in southwest London.
