居然不少人因为天冷帽子捂得严实看不见路而被撞死。神奇啊神奇。 TORONTO - A 68-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed as he crossed a busy road in West Hill Tuesday. The senior was walking from the south side to the north side of Kingston Rd. at Beechgrove Dr., east of Morningside Ave., around 9:45 p.m. when he was hit in the intersection, Toronto Police said Wednesday. Investigators said they believe the man was crossing against the traffic lights. “A 25-year-old man was driving a 2005 Infiniti G35 westbound on Kingston Road, in lane two, approaching a green light,” police said. “The vehicle struck the pedestrian.” The victim, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. There has been a recent rash of pedestrians being hit by cars recently — not all of the fatal. There is often a spike in pedestrian collisions as the weather turns colder in the fall, traffic services Const. Clint Stibbe said. “As the temperature drops, people have their hoods pulled up and they are often in a rush,” Stibbe said, adding motorists are just as likely to be at fault. Overall, the number of pedestrian fatalities is up just slightly in 2012 from last year. Toronto Police statistics show 18 pedestrians were killed in 2011 and so far this year 22 pedestrians have died. Stibbe said the total number of pedestrians struck is typically just over 2,000 annually or about 5.9 people per day. During the holiday season, Stibbe pointed out there are a lot of people rushing around, on foot and in their vehicles, trying to finish up their Christmas shopping. “Drivers and pedestrians need to be more careful out there,” he said. Police are appealing for witnesses to the city’s latest pedestrian fatality to come forward.
